Fancy footwork part of final exams at UNCW
It was a final exam involving some fancy footwork for some students at UNCW Thursday. Twenty-four students competed in an International Ballroom and Latin Dance competition for the final grade. It is the 17th year for the competition.
Professor John Bennett is a former international ballroom competitor. Students said Bennett taught them to love the dances.
“The meringue, because you can just ad lib a lot of stuff, it’s a pretty simple dance. You can throw your partner around and do all kinds of stuff so it’s pretty fun,” said Beau Sommersill.
In total, dancers performed seven dances including the Texas shuffle, foxtrot, and polka. The students were judged in several categories including form, timing, execution, and their ability to follow and lead.
