Farmin’ on Front ready for business

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The wait for a grocery store in downtown Wilmington is almost over.

“I get really frustrated when you hear about people talking about Charleston and Savannah and how we should be like them. And I’m like ‘No way guys. They should be like Wilmington,'” said Molly Crawford, the retail director for Farmin’ Stores.

For years there has been talk about the need for a grocery store downtown.

“The one thing that was missing was like a fresh produce market you could just go to without driving,” said Louise Graham.

But starting on Friday, Farmin’ on Front hopes to fill that roll.

“We produce most of what you see locally, so all of our gelato, our baked goods, our fudge, we cut all of our own meat, we prepare all of our own meals,” Crawford said. “We’re really proud to say we’re not a grocery store. We are an urban market.”

Crawford said that means you can shop the store for ingredients to make your own meals or buy already made meals to heat it up and enjoy.

“It’s really good. Good getting away from the kinda big corporate supermarket, doing something a bit local, with fresh produce. So a really welcome change,” said Paul Graham.

The downtown community said they’re ready for a grocery store in the heart of downtown.

“We’re not very good at doing the big shop at the weekend and deciding what we’re going to eat every night. So I think we’ll totally be here three or four times a week,” said Louise Graham.
