Fatal accident in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 20-year-old man is dead after a fatal car accident on Highway 133.

The victim, Anthony Burgess, died after the driver, Efird Johnson, lost control of the car around a curve. The Cadillac overturned near Belville on 133 a few minutes after 3:30 this morning.

State Troopers say alcohol and speed were contributing factors. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt.

The 26-year-old driver sustained no major injuries and was taken to jail. He has been released, and criminal charges are pending until after the investigation is complete.
