Fayetteville cuts power, water to home for women veterans
FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — The power and water have been cut to a home for women veterans in Fayetteville after the home fell behind on utility bills.
The Jubilee House received national attention four years ago when it was featured on the “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” television show.
Home founder Barbara Summey Marshall tells local media outlets the home’s eight women and four children have been using flashlights since the power was cut Wednesday.
Marshall says when the house was made over and increased to 5,000 square feet, the utility bills rose to as much as $1,500 a month.
A spokeswoman for the city Public Works Commission says Jubilee House is several months behind on bills and the city has tried to work with the home allowing extensions and setting up payment plans.
