Fayetteville employees getting raises, unlike many

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Many state and local government
workers in North Carolina are worried about their jobs, not whether
they will get raises.

But The Fayetteville Observer reports many city employees expect
to get raises of 2.5 percent this year and police officers are
expected to get more. A vote is expected Monday.

State employees have received no raises for the past two years
and don’t expect one this year.

Cumberland County workers are not expecting raises this year,
either.

Fayetteville officials say retail and military spending have
been boosted by growth at Fort Bragg. Officials say they can afford
raises to help keep a trained and qualified work force of 1,500
people.

There’s a wage freeze in Charlotte and Raleigh. Workers in
Greensboro and Winston-Salem may get a 1.5 percent pay hike.
