Missing cabbie case now has homicide detectives

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has assigned homicide investigators to the case of a missing cab driver from Fayetteville.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Tuesday that the case of 61-year-old William James Simon still was classified as a suspicious missing persons case. But sheriff’s spokeswoman Debbie
Tanna said there is nothing in Simon’s background to show he would leave willingly.

Simon was last heard from early Friday morning when he told his dispatcher he planned to take a passenger to Raleigh. His cab was found abandoned late Friday night in Spring Lake, about 11 miles north of Fayetteville. His Bible was on the passenger seat.
