FBI looking into Lennon Lacy hanging death
ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — Nearly three months after a Bladen County teen was found hanging from a swingset, federal investigators are now involved in the case.
To this point, local and state prosecutors have said they have found no signs of foul play in the death of Lennon Lacy, 17, but they’ve kept the case open as Lacy’s family questioned the official ruling that he killed himself.
Today District Attorney Jon David said he recently asked the FBI, because Lacy’s family had asked for a federal investigation and because they said they had information they did not want to share with state investigators.
“My motivation in getting the federal is to provide an avenue to get information,” David said during a news conference at the Bladen County Courthouse this afternoon.
Lacy was found hanging by a dog leash and a belt from a swing set in a trailer park in late August. The state medical examiner ruled the teen’s death a suicide, but questions have remained because of so many questions about how Lacy died.
The family has asked the NC NAACP help it find answers. Last month the civil rights group asked a federal prosecutor in Raleigh to get involved.
The state chapter of the NAACP is organizing a march Saturday in Bladenboro.
