Feeling quixotic? Nags Head has a windmill for you
NAGS HEAD, N.C. — If you’ve ever wanted your own windmill – especially one with a 7,300-square-foot building – then Nags Head has the place for you.
The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk reported that the town of Nags Head and the Dare County Tourism board are looking for someone to buy the closed Windmill Point restaurant. The building needs as much as $300,000 in repairs. That doesn’t include fixing the authentic 80-year-old windmill in the backyard.
The county and town hope someone will renovate the building on Roanoke Sound and lease it for at least five years, with an option to renew. After that, the governmental co-owners hope a convention center could be financed, although they estimate that’s 10 years away.
The town and tourism board recently published a request for proposals. Bidding closes Sept. 30.
