FEMA: Be ready for natural disasters, Hurricane Matthew deadline Monday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Being prepared for a natural disaster can be a daunting task, but Bill Rukeyser from FEMA says it doesn’t have to be.
He recommends being proactive and thoughtful about your home as you’re building or remodeling it. At the very least, he says to “build things as high off the ground as possible.” That includes homes further inland which can often be surprised by flooding.
For anyone in Southeastern North Carolina affected by Hurricane Matthew, he reminds you that the deadline for FEMA aid is Monday, January 9. Absolutely no exceptions will be made after midnight that day.
