FEMA says loss of roof is ‘minor damage’ in Dunn
DUNN, NC (AP) — Federal officials have rejected a Dunn man’s request for aid to rebuild his home after he lost most of his roof in the April 16 tornados.
WRAL-TV reports that Willie Wrench’s home is exposed to the weather and was condemned by Harnett County officials. Wrench is living in a trailer parked in his yard.
Wrench said inspectors with the Federal Emergency Management Agency visited his property a few days after the storm. Later, Wrench got a letter stating FEMA wouldn’t pay because his loss was considered “minor damage.”
FEMA spokeswoman Bettina Hutchings said the letter may have been intended to address other needs, such as moving or storage costs. Hutchings says anyone with questions about FEMA coverage to visit a FEMA center for clarification.
