Few turn out for Wilmington City Council public hearing on budget
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council met tonight to talk money. The purpose of the meeting was to allow public input for the upcoming budget. But the public didn’t seem too keen to offer input. The meeting was sparsely attended to be polite, and those who did address the council were mainly from other public sector and civic organizations.
Bob Calhoun from Habitat for Humanity is very happy with the city’s support for his organization.
“We are just very pleased that the city is including Habitat for Humanity’s work in the allocation of home funds, and one of the points we make is that as an organization built on partnerships, part of that partnership is that as we create affordable home ownership we are also elevation folks into that joyful realm of taxpayers,” Calhoun said.
With no opposition, it looks like smooth sailing.
The next meeting will be on June 7 for a first vote on the budget. The budget must be adopted by July 1, the beginning of the new fiscal year.
