The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has confirmed that there were multiple ejections in last Friday night’s high school football game between West Bladen and Heide Trask.
Both West Bladen High and Trask High will likely be booted out of the football state playoff picture by the end of the week. Both teams likely see the handwriting on the wall due to a fight that occurred at Trask last Friday.
Week 8 of the high school football season is complete. As usual we had loads of coverage on the 5th Quarter with host John Rendleman and analyst Trot Nixon. Unfortunately one area game featured a brawl that resulted in seven player ejections. The list of playoff teams from our area just got reduced due to sanctions that will result from the multiple ejections.
With a 6-0 record Hoggard is on a roll in high school football. The Vikings defeated New Hanover last Friday; therefore, we stayed in town in order to present the Vikings with our team of the week award.
WWAY's 5th Quarter from the first Friday in October is complete, as is week 7 of the high school football season. We featured Hoggard's win over New Hanover, along with victories from Laney, Topsail, Whiteville, East Bladen and Wallace-Rose Hill.
The annual New Hanover - Hoggard football rivalry will be renewed on Friday night at Scott Braswell Stadium. We caught up with both head coaches in order to get their take on the cross town showdown.
On Wednesday we honored the West Bladen Knights with our team of the week award. West Bladen is off to an impressive 4-1 start this season. The Knights defeated Union 50-21 last Friday.
Week 6 of the high school football season is complete. Once again we had an action packed 5th Quarter. In fact Friday marked the first night of conference play for most of the teams in our region.
Ashley High School's football team won't have its starting running back when the Screaming Eagles travel to South Brunswick Friday night.
West Brunswick defeated North Brunswick last week in high school football. It was the second win in a row for the Trojans. On Wednesday we recognized West Brunswick with the WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance at Mayfaire Team of the Week award.
