Aashad Yeoman named Laney head football coach
Laney High School didn't waste much time in finding a replacement for Greg Ditz, nor did the Bucs look too far. Defensive coordinator Aashad Yeoman has been named the new head football coach at Laney.

Fonvielle resigns as S. Columbus head football coach
Jake Fonvielle announced his resignation as the South Columbus head football coach and athletics director on Wednesday morning. Fonvielle took over the football program at South Columbus in 2009. Fonvielle led the Stallions to the 2-A East Championship game in 2011 & 2012.
WWAY's Monday night sports - January 27
Laney High is the place to be in four more nights. Four jerseys will hang from the rafters, including a larger than life Michael Jordan uniform. A handful of high school basketball teams squeezed in games on Monday night prior to Tuesday's expected snow storm. Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils left Pittsburgh with a victory on Monday. The UNCW-Towson men's basketball game won't be played on Wednesday. Plus more!
Laney football coach Greg Ditz steps down
Laney head football coach Greg Ditz has resigned his position at Buctown. Ditz sported a winning record in two of his seasons at Laney: 2011 & 2013.
South Brunswick recommends Daniel Finn as next football coach
The South Brunswick Cougars could soon have a new football coach.
The school's administration has recommended Daniel Finn for the job. He would also fill a vacant physical education teaching position.
WWAY's Thursday night spots - December 12
On Thursday night on WWAY we provided an extensive profile on the state champion Topsail High cheerleaders. They recently captured the state title in Raleigh. Trask High football coach Glenn Sellers has resigned. Trask baseball coach Jonathan Batts has resigned as well. Both will remain at Trask as teachers. Plus more!
Full Court Press Dec. 6
The first Full Court Press of the new high school basketball season is in the books. Chasity Melvin made her Full Court Press debut on WWAY on Friday night. We had basketball highlights from Ashley-71st, Hoggard-Millbrook, New Hanover-Jack Britt, Laney-East Columbus, Whiteville-East Bladen, South Brunswick-Cape Fear Academy and Trask-North Brunswick.
All Mideastern Conference awards announced
Laney's Coult Culler is the football player of the year. Hoggard's Scott Braswell has been named the coach of the year. 2013 Mideastern Conference awards and all-conference teams for all of the fall sports except football were released two weeks ago. All conference honors for football were announced today.
WWAY's Friday night sports - Nov. 29
Hoggard was unable to hold onto the lead in the third round of the high school football state playoffs on Friday. James Kenan knocked Whiteville out of the playoffs. The Tigers will play Wallace-Rose Hill next. Both UNCW basketball teams lost on Friday. The Seahawk men lost at home. The Seahawk women lost in Cancun against former UNCW coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke and the USC Trojans.
WWAY's Monday night sports - November 25
The basketball season is now underway for Hoggard High School. We had hoops action on WWAY on Monday night from Hebbe Gymnasium. The pairings are set for the 2013 Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament in Wilmington and the 2014 MLK Jamfest in Sampson County. Plus more!
