Fight to raise money for brain injury research
WILMINGTON — Fort Bragg is hosting a charity mixed martial arts bout to raise money for traumatic brain injury research.
Ultimate Fighting Championship’s “Fight For The Troops” will be broadcast live from the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville on Wednesday. Tickets are available to Fort Bragg soldiers, but the
fight is closed to the public.
The money raised will go to the Fisher House and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund to help build the National Intrepid Center of Excellence.
The advanced research facility in Bethesda, Md. will be dedicated to treating troops who suffer from traumatic brain injuries. The organizations have raised $50 million but need
another $20 million.
Brain injuries caused by explosions are among the most common combat injuries suffered by troops in Iraq.
