Filming of ‘Dirty Dancing’ remake in North Carolina delayed
ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) — A television remake of the movie “Dirty Dancing” scheduled to film in the Asheville area has been delayed.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that filming was to begin in the spring but has been postponed until late summer.
An application for a North Carolina film and entertainment grant says Lionsgate TV plans a three-episode television miniseries on ABC Networks. A summary from the form describes the production as “a night of singing and dancing.”
Lionsgate had planned to film in April and May. A company executive has asked for and received an extension on the $4 million grant, with filming expected to begin in August. John Valentine cited efforts to “lock down” creative elements of the project.
The 1987 movie starred Patrick Swayze was also filmed in western North Carolina.
