Finishing touches being put on areas “greenest” home

Builders are putting the finishing touches on what they’re calling the greenest home in this half of the state.

The house in the New Brunswick Forrest development off Highway Seventeen is powered mostly by solar energy.

Walls are insulated so that it’s easy to heat and cool. Even the pavement is pervious, which means water runs through it instead of off it into a storm drain.

Builder Chris Senior says the best part is its energy efficiency.

“The potential to not have a light bill at all — It’s like an automobile that runs on air. You don’t ever have to go back to the filling station,” said Senior.

Senior said all building materials such as paint and wall paper are eco-friendly.

Of course, all these perks add to the bottom line. Senior said the house will sell for 10 to 20 percent more than the average home in the development.
