Fire district rating lowered, helping insurance rates
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County officials say a recent rating change of one fire district should help lower insurance rates in the area.
Pender County Commission Chair David Williams said this morning they received confirmation the Northeast Pender Fire District, which used to be the Surf City Volunteer Fire District, would become a class 5 ISO rating. Williams says that takes effect August 1.
Williams says the change is due to the Town of Surf City Fire Department now covering the area. The area was rated a 6/9S. The ratings depends in part on the proximity to fire hydrants, Williams said. The 6 rating is for residents and businesses that are 1000 ft. or less from a hydrant, the 9S for people further than 1000 ft.
Williams says this should be a big impact in people’s wallets, especially in the 9S area. The amount of money saved depends on the insurance carrier, he said.
