Fire fighters training despite extreme heat

Despite the 100 degree heat index, some members of the Wilmington Fire Department went on with their scheduled firefighter training today.

They have been doing the exercises in the abandoned Nesbitt Court housing complex in Wilmington.

The firefighters made sure to take extra precautions today because of the hot weather.

Wilmington Fire Dept. training chief Chris Nelson said, “We have two paramedics standing by from New Hanover Regional EMS. We’re taking other precautions to make sure everyone stays plenty hydrated, stays cool. That’s a big priority for us this time of year.”

The training exercises are expected to go on through July so there has bound to be more hot days ahead.
