Fire leaves Wilmington family homeless
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A fire in Wilmington leaves a family without a home tonight. The home on 7th Street went up in flames just before 8:30 a.m.
The owner told us she was on her way out the door when she smelled smoke. She went to check on her two daughters, who were asleep on the second floor. That’s when she saw flames inside the girls’ rooms.
Firefighters were able to save part of the house by quickly knocking the fire out.
“This is a material loss,” Wilmington Fire Department Capt. Tim Smith. “You can’t replace your loved ones, but you can replace that structure, the house.”
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
