Fire service agreement with Myrtle Grove

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — A formal lease agreement with the Myrtle Grove Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors has been reached. The agreement will allow New Hanover County Fire Service personnel to be housed in the station on US 421 South at Monkey Junction.

The lease calls for New Hanover County to use the facility for 12 months at a cost of $30,000 and the use of all apparatus owned by the volunteers. The contract also calls for the county to cover legal expenses related to the creation of a not-for-profit trust. In addition, the county reserves the right to renew the contract for two, one-year periods at no additional cost.

New Hanover County recently consolidated five former fire districts into two districts and have signed leases with other VFD Boards of Directors for use of the volunteer’s property. The Myrtle Grove district’s board had been the lone hold-out of the plan. A temporary fire station was quickly established a few hundred yards from the Myrtle Grove facility which will now be moved to the more familiar location.
