Firecrew respond to overnight fire in Leland


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Leland Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to a fire off of Village Road just before 11 p.m. March 15.

According to a release, an engine arrived on Willets Lane and found smoke coming from a commercial building nearby. The engine called in for a ladder out of New Hanover County to assist with the fire discovered at J&B Upholstery. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and no injuries were reported.

Units from Brunswick County EMS, Navassa, Northwest, Winnabow, and New Hanover County fire departments all responded to the fire.

Officials say the unit suffered significant fire, heat, and smoke damage. Four additional units were damaged by smoke and water. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical problem related to a hot water heater.
