Firefighter killed in SC was Whiteville native

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — We’re learning more about the man who died while responding to a fire call in Conway over the weekend.

Christopher Gene Ray died when a firetruck hit him Sunday afternoon at a fire call, officials said. According to his obituary, the firefighter was born in Whiteville and had two daughters.

Funeral services have been planned for Thursday at 11 a.m. in Myrtle Beach.
