Firefighters honor the 9/11 victims in a memorial ride

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)– If you were in the Wilmington area, you may have noticed several motorcycles jetting down Market Street.

It had everything to do with them honoring more 300 firefighters through a memorial ride who lost their lives on 9/11.

The Red Knights Motorcycle Club of NC, Chapter 6. Is a group of firefighters who enjoy riding motorcycles.

President, Buddy Mizelle says this is the club’s 14th year organizing this event.

He says members wore dog tags with engraved names of firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.

“It’s pretty touching. And it means a lot to all of us that we can be able to ride in memory of them with our founding brothers and sisters,” Mizelle said.

Mizelle says the club sponsors a different organization every year.

This year, they voted for 7-year-old, Hannah Dombrowski who just got her second full heart transplant.

Hannah’s grandfather is also a member.
