Firefighters investigate downtown buildings for possible fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Multiple fire trucks were called to the Murchison Building and Pender’s Cafe on Front Street in Downtown Wilmington.

Dispatch says the call came in around 7:55 p.m. A witness reported seeing sparks. Firefighters could be seen inspecting both buildings for smoke.

Battalion Chief David Hines says they cleared the scene around 11pm, and that it was an external electrical issue where wires burned.

“It appears to be isolated to an exterior electrical wiring pipe chase,” Hines said.

No fires or damage were reported and Front street is back open.
