Firefighters raise nearly $47,000 for Fill the Boot campaign

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Members of New Hanover County Fire and Rescue raised $46,967.77 during the Fill the Boot campaign.

The money was raised in just two weekends, from November 9-11 and November 15-17.

The cash will help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that limit strength and mobility.

“For more than six decades, fire fighters have fueled MDA’s mission to find treatments and cures for muscle-debilitating diseases, and this year’s New Hanover County Fire/Rescue Fill the Boot results are perfect example of their dedication,” said Interim Executive Director Liz Shirley.  “We are extremely grateful to have the support of these truly selfless heroes, as well as the entire New Hanover County community. It is with their generosity that we will be able to empower MDA families with life-enhancing resources and support that open new possibilities and maximize independence so they can experience the world without any limits.”

MDA’s Fill the Boot campaign is a tradition in which thousands of dedicated fire fighters in hometowns across America hit the streets or storefronts asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and other passersby to make a donation to MDA.
