Firefighters rescue two from overnight Wilmington fire after lightning strikes home

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A lightning strike sparked a second-alarm fire at a multi-family townhome on Costmary Lane early Monday morning, according to the Wilmington Fire Department.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene around 1 a.m. and quickly rescued two adults from the burning unit before bringing the fire under control.
Officials said the blaze was contained to the affected townhome, though a neighboring unit sustained moderate damage. No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is assisting residents who were displaced by the fire.
The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office has confirmed the fire was accidental and caused by a lightning strike.
