Firefighters urge caution after shed fire closes section of Murrayville Road
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Firefighters are urging the public to be careful after a shed fire blocked off much of Murrayville road today.
Crews said a man was in compliance with what he was burning and how he was burning it, but a large gust of wind blew the fire to the shed. The man was unable to put out the fire on his own and called 911.
Captain Ryan Merrill with the New Hanover County Fire Department said the current fire rating danger is high. He said that means you’re allowed to do outside burning, but you have to be extremely cautious.
“The wind can blow with gusts, very rapidly, and that can spread the fire,” Merrill said. “So you have to really stay with it if you’re going to burn and keep a close eye on what’s going on and the conditions around you.”
Merrill said there were no injuries and there were not citations issued to the homeowner because he was in compliance with his burning.
