FIRST ON 3: Autopsy provides few answers in death of Southport man
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — New details tonight in the death of a Southport man whose body washed up on Bald Head Island after he went missing last winter.
Even after an autopsy, it’s still unclear how Adam Muhammad, 22, died.
Muhammad was last seen walking from his job at a Southport restaurant on Valentine’s Day and reported missing two days later.
Crews searched for days for him, but he would not be found until his body washed up on a Bald Head Island beach March 17.
According to an autopsy report released today, his body had only socks on it when it was found. The medical examiner said he could find no injuries or other issues that explain Muhammad’s death, so the ME ruled Muhammad’s death “undetermined.”
Southport Police Chief Jerry Dove says his detectives are still working on the case, but they do not have any new leads.
WWAY spoke with Muhammad’s mom Aleyah Muhammad she thinks it’s all very suspicious.
“He was afraid of the water. He would not go in the water. Not in a pool, not in the ocean and not in that river,” She said. “I just wish somebody would hurry up and speak up and find out who did it and what really happened.”
