FIRST ON 3: Former Hoggard teacher indicted on three charges

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County grand jury has indicted a former Hoggard High School coach and teacher on three criminal counts.

The grand jury returned an indictment yesterday against Michael Supak for indecent liberties with a student, assault on a female and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The indictment says Supak committed the alleged crimes against a 17-year-old female student. According to the indictment, the assault charge stems from Supak kissing the girl on the neck.

“We believe he’s innocent,” Supak’s attorney Brent Wentz said. “We intend to defend him in court.”

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office arrested Supak in November and charged him with indecent liberties with a student for an incident investigators said happened on campus in October.

New Hanover County Schools suspended Supak with pay following his arrest. Supak quit as a teacher and coach at Hoggard in March.

Records show his next court date is June 13.
