FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Cops found beer cans months ago in crashed Fair Bluff car

FAIR BLUFF, NC (WWAY) — New information in Fair Bluff on a town car that crashed last month. New details show this same car may have been involved in another incident involving alcohol.

Fair Bluff worker Billie Johnson admitted he’d been drinking before crashing the car in a late-night accident Jan. 26, but it appears this is not the first time Fair Bluff has had issues with alcohol and town vehicles.

WWAY obtained a police report from October. In it a Fair Bluff Police officer says he saw a town-owned car parked at Cypress Village Apartments with an opened beer can in the cup holder. Earlier that day, the officer saw the same car, a white Mercury Sable, parked outside of the town maintenance garage. He says he saw people hanging out around the car and found two more cans of the same brand of beer.

Records show it was the same car wrecking two weeks ago. In that accident Johnson told police he had been drinking before swerving to avoid something in the road around 1:30 a.m. on a Saturday and flipping the car into a ditch. Police say Johnson left the scene of the accident and blew a 0.08 on an alcohol breath test eight hours after the crash.

Town officials say Johnson is still employed and will probably get a town car again in the future.

We wanted to know if the car was assigned to Johnson at the time of the first incident, but Fair Bluff Mayor Randy Britt has not returned several calls this afternoon.
