FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Wilmington Police end downtown standoff in arrest of murder suspect

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After several hours in a standoff, the Wilmington Police Department has arrested Andrew Bernard Adams, a murder suspect, at a house at 815 N. 6th Street.

According to Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evalgelous, Adams is suspected to be involved in the death investigation that began earlier Friday. Investigators discovered a woman’s body buried in the yard of a home at 1115 Cowan St. Evangelous says Adams is a convicted serial rapist.

According to Police Department spokeswoman Lucy Crockett, the US Marshal Violent Fugitive Task Force was attempting to serve a warrant to Adams when he barricaded himself inside the house.
