FIRST ON 3: Pruden lands $57,000, 7-month state job

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It did not take long for former Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Dr. Edward Pruden to land a new job.

Pruden currently serves as a School Transformation Coach for the NC Department of Public Instruction, according to DPI spokeswoman Vanessa Jeter. She says the job is intended to provide support for low-performing schools to help them improve student performance.

Pruden’s contract for the job started Jan. 5 and runs through July 30 at an annualized salary of $98,000, Jeter said. That works out to about $57,000 for seven months of work. Jeter says that money comes from the $400 million Race to the Top grant the state got from the federal government in 2010.

The Brunswick County School Board fired Pruden in November paying him a buyout of $94,479.07. Pruden had planned to leave the district when his contract ran out this summer.
