FIRST ON 3: Two jailers suspended, one demoted in wake of jail escape
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County’s sheriff has disciplined more employees following the escape of inmate William Hewett.
Hewett escaped from the Brunswick County Detention Facility Jan. 29. He was captured Tuesday morning.
According to a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, Sheriff John Ingram today suspended Jailer Aaron Glen Stanley and Lt. Ronald Gore for two days. He also demoted Karl Scoggins from sergeant to corporal. All three men worked at the jail.
The sheriff fired Jailer Ashley Harrell last weekend in connection with the incident.
Hewett, along with several family members and friends, are in the Brunswick County Jail charged in connection with the escape.
