FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Bicyclist hit by car in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators said a woman is in surgery after getting hit by a car.

Wilmington Police said the accident happened at the intersection of Wrightsville Avenue and Old Lamplighter road around 8 p.m.

Police said the woman, in her 40s, was riding her bike on Wrightsville Avenue going towards South College Road. Police said the woman was partially on the road when an SUV going the same direction hit her.

EMS took her to New Hanover Regional with serious injuries, including a head injury.

Police said the driver was not hurt and will not be facing charges.
