FIRST ON WWAY UPDATE: Suspect in Good Samaritan attack charged with murder
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man who interrupted a domestic disturbance died last night after his family removed him from life support.
Now the man accused of attacking him, Hakeem Sanders, 31, is charged with second degree murder.
Family members say Alan Pearson entered the Safeway Store at 3316 Wilshire Blvd around 11:00 pm Monday night.
They say Pearson saw Sanders hitting a woman, so he told her not to follow him outside and he would call 911 and get her some help.
Police say Sanders overheard Pearson’s comment and assaulted him.
The store clerk called 911 and EMS transported Pearson, who was unconscious, to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was placed on life support.
The family says they removed him from life support at 9:00 p.m.
Pearson died last night.
Members of the Wilmington Police Department’s US Marshal’s Task Force apprehended Sanders Tuesday and initially charged him with assault inflicting serious injury.
During a court appearance on Wednesday, Sanders’ bond was raised to $1 million.
