FIRST ON 3: Activity van overturns in accident on Dawson St.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Dispatch says an activity van has overturned in an accident involving two other vehicles at the intersection of 16th and Dawson Street in Wilmington. A Community Boys & Girls Club van overturned in the accident. There were six children in the van. EMS examined all of the children. None were taken to the hospital. They were released to their parents. Injuries to the children were minor.

A pregnant woman driving a Ford Escort was involved in the crash. She was transported to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Her condition does not appear to be serious. The third car was a Honda Accord. Neither men in that car required medical attention.

Wilmington Police have charged the driver of the van with running a red light. Before he was ticketed David Branch told WWAY “What happened was we went through the light. In a flash we got hit by another car. After that my main goal was to make sure the kids were safe.” David Branch is the director of athletics for the Community Boys and Girls Club of Wilmington.
