New Hanover deputies crack cold case

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cold case cracked. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in a murder case more than a decade old.

Deputies arrested 45-year-old Elton Eugene Robbins. He’s charged with the murder and kidnapping of Alice Holmes back in May 1999. Holmes, a known prostitute, was found buried in Castle Hayne after she was missing for more than a month.

“Hopefully this will allow her family to have some closure to this senseless murder, and what we’d like to say together is justice never sleeps and it doesn’t matter how long it will take, but that we will work relentlessly and will not stop until we can bring these people to justice,” Sheriff Ed McMahon said.

Robbins will make his first appearance in court tomorrow. District Attorney Ben David says he has not decided if he will ask for the death penalty.
