First Stormfest a huge success

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Even though the weather was sunny, it was a stormy day inside the Cape Fear Museum on Saturday for the first ever “Stormfest”. Over two 2,700 weather enthusiasts packed the museum to learn more about the weather and get ready for the 2010 Hurricane Season.

Visitors were treated to dozens of educational exhibits, an ‘Ask the Expert’ panel discussion, and the opportunity to meet local meteorologists including WWAY’s Jerry Jackson and Tim Buckley. The whole theme of the day was to teach people how to be prepared for a hurricane. Its an important message, considering that this year’s forecast calls for 14-23 named storms; the highest number in years.

Museum officials say its one of the biggest crowds they’ve ever seen and hope to make it a yearly event. The event was a joint effort between the museum, the National Weather Service, local media outlets and others.
