First Wilmington Service Award Winner Selected

The first citizen service award was presented by Wilmington City Council tonight.

Johnnie Henagan was recognized for his dedication of time and effort to the city. Henagan has volunteered to serve on city boards for 15 years, including the Board of Adjustment and the Planning Commission. The retired U.S. Army Colonel has been the president of the Sunset Park Neighborhood Association for more than a decade.

“This is a milestone,” Henagan said Tuesday night, “It really is. It’s a tremendous honor and a privilege. The honor and privilege really is being able to work in somewhere where I am able to impact the quality of life for the citizens of the city.”

Henagan was chosen by a City Council appointed committee. There were three other people nominated for the award, Paul Lawler, Rob Zapple and Laura Gallagher.
