Five companies compete for adult care home beds in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services says five providers have filed competing proposals in response to a need determination in the 2015 State Medical Facilities Plan for 340 additional adult care home beds in Brunswick County.

A public hearing for these projects will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 16 at the Virginia Williamson Event Center at Brunswick County Community College.
A brief description of each proposal follows:

  • Liberty of Brunswick proposes to establish a new 110-bed adult care home in the Town Creek Township. The project is expected to cost $18.9 million and to be completed in October 2018.
  • Leland Health Holdings and Leland House propose to add 40 adult care home beds to Leland House, a 78-bed adult care home at 1935 Lincoln Road, NE, Leland. The project is expected to cost $3.3 million and to be completed in October 2017.
  • Brunswick Propco Holdings and Brunswick Opco Holdings propose to establish a new 80-bed adult care home in Calabash. The project is expected to cost $8.6 million and to be completed in October 2017.
  • The Brunswick Community and Brunswick AL Properties propose to establish a 110-bed adult care home, including a 48-bed special care unit, in the Sunset Beach area. The project is expected to cost $6.2 million and to be completed in October 2017.
  • Arbor Landing at Ocean Isle proposes to establish a 132-bed adult care home, including a 32-bed special care unit, at 5490 Arbor Branch Drive in Shallotte. The project is expected to cost $1.9 million and to be completed in October 2018.

Anyone may file written comments about these proposals. Comments must be received by the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section no later than Oct. 1. Comments may be submitted as an attachment to an email if they are emailed to the analyst assigned to the review at: DHSR.CON.Comments@dhhs.nc.gov.
