Flags at half staff as former NC governor dies

A former North Carolina governor died Friday morning. Robert Walter Scott served as North Carolina’s governor from 1969 through 1973.

Flags were lowered to half staff Friday in honor of Scott.

Scott was instrumental in unifying the state’s university system and helped push the first tax on tobacco through the legislature, then a political sacred cow.

Funeral services will be held for Governor Scott at Hawfield’s Presbyterian Church in Mebane on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
