Flavor of the Past: Cape Fear Museum

History and food are coming together for the upcoming Flavor of the Past Tour.

All this week, we are featuring historic locations around Wilmington, and the restaurants they are paired with on the tour.

One of those stops is the Cape Fear Museum. It is paired with the downtown restaurant The Pilot House.

The Flavor of the Past Tour will take visitors back to the wartime boom in Wilmington during World War II.

It was a time when rationing goods was necessary, to support the troops overseas.

Virginia Howell of the Cape Fear Museum said, “We are looking at the home front experience here, not from the perspective of the soldiers but from the other people that were left behind, the mothers, the fathers, the children. So, the people who were working in the ship yard, the people building the liberty ships — people who made their own victory gardens and producing their own food.”

The Pilot House chefs will be cooking up favorite dishes from the 40’s.

The tour kicks off August 23. It also includes stops at the Bellamy Mansion, the Latimer House, and the William J. Price House.

Flavor of the Past is Saturday, August 23rd. 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Flavor of the Past tickets are $40 through August 8th. Call 910-798-4362.
