Flavor of the Past: USO

History and food is coming together for the upcoming Flavor of the Past Tour.

All this week, we are featuring historic locations around Wilmington, and the restaurants they are paired with on tour.

Today’s stop is the historic USO building in Wilmington.

Wilmington was a hot spot in the 1940’s.

Servicemen from around the region who served in World War II flocked to the Port City for entertainment.

This month’s tour will allow visitors to catch up on old war stories while sampling some food from the past, courtesy of Sweet and Savoy.

Chris Pridgen, chef at Sweet & Savory, said, “Because of the rations, most Americans weren’t allowed to have eggs, cheese, butter and sugar. So we tried to make other tasty ingredients with what we could come up with.”

The tour kicks off on August 23.

Flavor of the Past is Saturday, August 23rd. 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Flavor of the Past tickets are $40 through August 8th. Call 910-798-4362.
