Flooded apartments tenants asked to move, and quickly

The problems are far from over in the wake of Monday night’s flooding. Residents of two apartment complexes off Racine Drive are facing a hard deadline from management to move out – and quickly.

Monday night’s high water has been replaced by U-Hauls at Brookstone Apartments. Tenants, mostly college students, and their parents have been hauling hastily packed boxes full of wet belongings.

We got a look inside Patricia Musilick’s apartment earlier. By the time they got home Monday night, the rising water had already damaged a lot of their valuables. They salvaged what they could.

Late Tuesday afternoon tenants received a letter on their doors from management ordering them out. “We have to move. All the dry wall is ruined; the furniture and carpet are ruined. Everything that was sitting on the ground is ruined due to the foot and a half deep water,” said flood victim David Logan.

Corrine Puckett said, “At 3:30 we got a note on the door saying we had to have everything moved out of our apartment. If not, they would come in tomorrow and move things out themselves.”

Tenants are on their own finding somewhere else to temporarily live.

Brookstone and Campus Walk Apartments are operated by the same company. Management isn’t talking, and ordered our reporters off the property.
