Flooding a major problem in Delco
In Columbus County, residential areas prone to flooding are bracing for Hanna’s arrival.
Water tank road in Delco sees heavy flooding whenever severe weather strikes.
Martin Benton has lived there for more than 40 years. During Hurricane Fran, his home had more than 100,000 dollars in damage. His front yard was also flooded when tropical storm Ernesto rolled through two years ago.
Mr. Benton said he’s ready for Hanna, but you can never be fully prepared.
Benton stated, “Hopefully we won’t get enough water out of Hurricane Hanna, but who knows. If it stops out here, picks it up and dumps it we could have it same thing again and its not a good feeling.”
Benton blames the flooding on a clogged Livingston creek. Columbus County has applied for state grants to clear the creek, but the funds haven’t been approved.
