Floodwaters unearth casket in Pender County

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Hurricane Florence dropped more than 30 inches of rain in some parts of the area causing historic river flooding over the past two weeks. Those floodwaters have unearthed a casket in a Pender County graveyard.

The casket could be seen floating on the corner of Whitestocking and Chorley roads in White Stocking, just northeast of Burgaw.

Pender County Emergency Management says they have received numerous calls about the casket but add there are no other reports of floating caskets in the county.

This happened to another North Carolina cemetery during Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
