Flower shop flooded after water line struck nearby

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One Wilmington flower shop had a rough start to their Monday.

A contractor for the Department of Transportation struck a water line in front of Carolina Girl Gardens, causing two feet of standing water at one point.

Chief Operations Officer of CFPUA Frank Styers said the contractor was installing cable on Market Street when they hit an unknown water line.

That caused water to flood the floors of the flower shop and parts of the parking lot.

It even reached the bowling alley behind the business.

Owner Garin Heil said it was stressful but he’s lucky to have such loyal customers and hard working employees.

“It’s just crazy that it happened,” Heil said. “You know we’re just glad that our customers, you know kept coming out and shopping with us. And that I had enough employees here to help us clean up.”

Heil said he just hopes not much is damaged, but because it’s flowers only time will tell.

Styers said the repairs to the water line should be finished by 7 p.m. on Monday and any damages to the shop will be evaluated and addressed.
