Flushing program could briefly affect water in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – For the past few weeks, Brunswick County Public Utilities crews have been flushing all of the water mains in the county. That work will wrap up on December 8.

According to a news release, when the work is finished, the county will convert back to chloramines as the primary disinfectant. During that transition period, customers may experience a brief period when there may be a noticeable change in the taste or smell of the water.

Brunswick Utilities say that is normal and the water is safe to use.

If the taste and/or odors continue for several days, contact the Brunswick County Public Utilities Department or your local water provider.

Officials say if you have an aquarium or pond always test the water that you add to your aquatic environment to be sure it is free of any chlorine before adding fish or other animals. Kidney dialysis clinics and customers on home kidney dialysis equipment should also be aware of this change.
