Fmr. Brunswick Co. Sheriff John Carr Davis dies
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A former area sheriff has passed away. He was 88 years old.
John Carr Davis served as Brunswick County Sheriff from 1983 to 1994. Before that, he served as a deputy for nine years, according to his obituary.
Before serving Brunswick County, the former sheriff served in the US Navy in the latter part of WWII to the beginning of the Korean War.
According to the sheriff’s office, Sheriff John Ingram, Chief Deputy Charles Miller and many other began their careers under Davis.
“Sheriff Davis was a tough, but fair leader who showed tremendous integrity, character, and care and concern for those who were fortunate enough to work with him,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “He was also a loving and dedicated family man. He will be greatly missed but his legacy will continue through those who grew under his leadership.”
The visitation and funeral will be held on Thursday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Southport.
