Football player suffers heat exhaustion during scrimmage
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear was under a heat advisory, and today’s extreme heat caused problems on the football field.
EMS took a Jacksonville High player to the hospital this afternoon after suffering heat exhaustion. The team was taking part in a series of scrimmages at Ashley High. Ashley coach Jason Tindal told us last week his team would take extra breaks as precautions against the heat.
“We want to make sure that they can go fast for 10-15 minute periods then take a three to five to six-minute water break depending on the humidity and the heat index,” Tindall said August 2 as practices started.
Coaches and trainers cooled down the player today with towels soaked in ice water.
